I noticed your algorithm calculates approximate time and cardio contribution based on weights lifted. Personally, I like this because when I did only 10 minutes of treadmill, the log shows 30 minutes of cardio because of the 20 minutes lifting -- and so I get more cardio "cred" than I might otherwise.
But there's an issue here. Is weightlifting really cardio in the real sense? Should lifting be automagically adding to our cardio score or is that just a bit of cheating?
My old trainer (old, in that I don't use him any more and also old in the sense that he was old) claimed that weight lifting did not confer the same heart health benefits of regular ol' treadmill-style cardio.
What do you think?
Thanks!

I agree completely .. but here's the honest truth. The Cardio tab used to be labeled Activities. When I switched website page layouts I couldn't fit the word "Activities" into the tab provided so I replaced it with "Cardio" -- bit of a cheat but this layout looked so much better than the other one.
The system automatically records your weight lifting time so you can get a better estimate of time spent on "activities" as well as any calories burned (either weight lifting or "actual" cardio).

I measure my heart rate most of the time lifting and it sits between 120 to 170 bpm for the whole hour I am lifting. That's taking 30 to 60 seconds between sets. The guy I lift with had to take a heart / treadmill test at the hospital and all his cardio / aerobic numbers were above average and he never runs or does aerobic classes. I guess the cardio effect depends on how long you rest between sets.
Question about the intensity selection for activities (low, Normal, High). How is this used? If I am taking a long time between sets but lifting very heavily what category am I in? The inverse if I am doing light weight but very little time in between sets what category am I in?

The intensity levels aren't used for anything other than allowing you to record what you "felt" your intensity with that activity (or weight lifting exercise) was. For example .. how much effort did you put into your run, how intense did you find it? You can record the same intensity values for each weight lifting exercise. Alot of the information on the detail view for both the cardio and weight lifting journals are there for you to record various data points but aren't used by Gym Journal in any calculated capacity.
For example if you wanted to record your pulse and max pulse data .. you could then download this information using the Reporting Options page and graph it using Excel.
